SYNOPSIS

A.D.
A human collective that was seemingly hell-bent on its own demise
approached its breaking point late in the 21st century. The polarization
of wealth and transfer of equity to the growing class of elite plutocrats
at the exclusion of the proletariat had never been a secret. Though,
by the end of the century, such trends had accelerated to
the point where no more capital could be seized and the global economic
machine began to stagger.
Concurrent shortages in the supply of mineral resources crippled
industry and sent energy prices soaring. The time-honored tradition
of commuting was suddenly extinct and a massive trend toward agglomeration
was launched, resulting in the greatest real estate crash in the
history of the nation. Fortunes were wiped out and most Americans
were left with nothing more than a hope for mere economic survival.
Pursuant to the scarcity of resources, the world's largest industrial
companies began a feverish wave of corporate acquisitions in a desperate
attempt to protect their supply chains. This urge to merge ignited
what would later be referred to as the Acquisition Wars. When the
dust had settled, only a few dozen monolithic megacorporations remained.
Tension in foreign policy escalated to the point of a global arms
race. It was at the moment when mankind was prepared to destroy
itself that the Earth itself dealt the lethal blow.
Following planetary geomagnetic reversal, successive waves of catastrophic
events pounded the continents without reprieve over the course of
nearly a year. Fire fell from the skies, crashing to the ground,
exposing giant chasms that had apparently lain dormant and undiscovered
for aeons. Plagues swept the lands, indiscriminately thinning the
ranks of humans. Seismic eruptions toppled skyscrapers and sent
towering tsunamis crashing against densely inhabited coastal cities.
Around the world, loss of life was catastrophic. Making matters
worse, reports began streaming in from areas surrounding the great
chasms of strange humanoid, even demonic beings permeating the wilderness.
At the same time, ascetics around the world began having revelations,
even claiming to have unlocked the secrets to wielding godly power
and conjuring miracles.
Years have passed and the world is still rebuilding from the great
Tribulation of eight years prior. From the ashes of Manhattan Island,
the new city of Halcyon is being constructed. The North American
Consolidated Federation is dogmatic in its intent to rebuild the
region and establish Halcyon as the new beacon of modern civilization,
as a testament to the greatness of western civilization, and as
the promise of golden years ahead for the billions of disenfranchised
individuals. In this new city of opportunity, beneath the towering
skyscrapers and the gleaming arcology, wars have begun over who
will claim the spoils and rise to power in what is to become the
keystone city of the Federation. The Federation and its military,
foreign governments, megacorporations, organized crime syndicates,
arms dealers, drug runners, fanatics, anarchists, and countless
other factions all enter the fray to control the rise (or demise)
of Halcyon and place their claim on the future of civilization.
All eyes are upon this highly-coveted and contested city-state.
And for good reason.
As Halcyon goes, so does the world.
